Project Information
M&S came to us with a brief to mark the season of gift-giving with everyone’s favourite football hero, Ian Wright. Wrighty was to play Santa for his family and friends, giving them M&S’ key gift items for the season.
Director, Charles Copsey, put together a script that drew out a comedic and chaotic Wrighty in a rush to get things ready for Christmas. Having developed lines for Wrighty as a guide, Charles was keen to get his natural ad lib on camera to ensure the performance felt true to his real character.
The first step was to find a house that could offer various set-ups and allow us to make it look like we were in more than one location. After a few recces we settled on a large heritage residence turned family home in South West London.
A scene featuring a vintage Porsche and having Wrighty’s real family members involved, including his baby granddaughter, upped the ante for the production team. Throw in a very packed shotlist and negotiating with tree surgeons next door when recording sound and you have yourself a very full-on day.
Thanks to our accommodating talent, flexible client and calm & focused crew, we managed to capture a very heartwarming and cinematic M&S x Wrighty Christmas.
